New UR generation for Arm, CB and Teach Pendant!

Great news! (kind of)

As some of us knew be rumours UR recognized the lack of connectivity through the arm and therefore the frequent need of having ugly and hindering cable along, and they are working on new HW. Today they announced the news!

Universal Robots unveils Gen 7, a new platform for industrial automation and physical AI deployment

I think, it partially really sounds amazing. But it also sounds, like all those extra connectivity is going directly into the control box. Am I wrong?

No Custom lanes? No possibility of supplying your gripped payload independently (so if your DUT has a shortcut it doesn’t power down the robot arm and the gripper)? What about the Gbit Ethernet. Is that one freely useable? (Just guessing as the controlbox has 3 Ethernet Ports)

Is the M8 Connector the same as in older generations?

What do you think about the announcement? Any feature you are especially looking forward to?

Even though I hoped for more (like 10 pin slipring for custom usage), I’m still looking forward to that new generation :slightly_smiling_face: And I am really curious to see the smaller modells upgraded as well (UR12e and smaller).

Yes.

No possibility of supplying your gripped payload independently (so if your DUT has a shortcut it doesn’t power down the robot arm and the gripper)?

The point in the article was to highlight that the new tool flange has a 48V power supply connector. And an M12 Ethernet port as well, so these 2 can be used to reduce the external wiring. You can see these being displayed in the new robots data sheets, for example, the UR17g-1300: My Document

But if you still wanna do the external wiring, ofc your can.
