Universal Robots is planning to make changes to the mechanical dimensions of the Control Box.
This applies to both e-Series and CB3.
Timeframe:
New control boxes will be shipped during March 2019.
In short:
CB3 and e-Series control box will use same cabinet.
This causes slight changes on e-Series.
Significant changes are present on CB3, which include fan placement, feet, changed expansion openings and volume inside CB.
Contents of control box (connectors, PCB, etc.) will be unchanged. TP’s are unchanged.

CB3
General
The TP bracket has a new hole layout.
Cargo bay
The inner dimensions for the new cabinet is the same, and thus the “cargo bay” remains at maximum 447x129x197[mm]. However, some of the cable interfaces are moved, space requirements must be checked per application in the STP file.
Handle
Handle has slightly different dimensions, and a decreased c-c hole pattern of 117mm.
Feet
The feet on the cabinet has a new design, that resembles that of the e-series. Refer to STP.
Fan
Fan filter is bigger, protruding more from the cabinet.
Electrical connectors
The four round holes for cable glands and Ethernet connection has new positions. Furthermore connectors for teach pendant and power, also has new positions to accommodate the new feet design.
Expansion holes
Expansion holes have same 75x120[mm] dimensions, but a new hole layout. See below.
e-Series
General
Added additional circular hole in the bottom, and small CB3 compatibility square hole, that is closed with a small plate.
Cargo bay
Cargo bay dimensions is identical, but slight changes like additional weld studs require that interference check is conducted.
Handle
Identical.
Feet
Identical.
Fan
Fan filter is moved approximately 2mm.
Electrical connectors
Robot and power connectors moved slightly.
Expansion holes
Moved. See below.
Expansion openings
The cover plate for expansion openings are identical for CB3 and e-Series.
The cover plate has a seal, to accommodate IP rating of the CB.
UR+ Products using this expansion opening must use UR supplied cover plates for interfaces.
The cover plate can be ordered from UR distributor with part number 103240 (Cover plate with seal for Control Box).
The location and size of the expansion opening is identical for CB3 and e-Series.
