Remote desktop to the controller UI

Does anyone managed to make a remote desktop connection to the controller in order to see the UI on a PC? On google I have found that someone has solved this issue installing a VNC server on the controller. Is this the “official” way? Does the installation of the VNC server have some impacts on the controller performances? Thanks!
