I am Wondering if it could be possible or has anyone tried, to use a Xbox Kinect camera sensor for vision purposes, I know they can be used for 3d scanning>
Hi Chris,
I have used the kinect with a different robot for distance sensing and object recognition and it worked quite well. you have to bear in mind that the depth sensing is not very accurate (+ or - about 10mm I found).
Depends what you need it for, definitely can not be used for any safety system. I was using opencv for the image recognition and it has quite a steep learning curve but there is also a lot of support available online.
