You should be able to connect a Turck I/O block (Modbus) to the UR via an ethernet connection.

Yes, we use the TBEN series of remote IO blocks with modbus directly on the robot, they work really well for us.
We use the TBEN-L5-16DXP modules as I like they are sealed, and each of the 16 points is configurable as an input or output. Ultimate flexibility.
