[Universal Robots A/S](https://www.universal-robots.com/), [PickNik Robotics](https://picknik.ai), and [FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik](https://www.fzi.de/en/home/) are excited to announce the first release of the open-source [Universal Robots ROS 2 driver](https://github.com/UniversalRobots/Universal_Robots_ROS2_Driver). This ros2\_control powered driver further hardens the beta release that was presented at ROS World 2021.

The driver is compatible across the entire line of UR robots, from 3 kg payload to 16 kg payload, and includes both the CB3 and the E-series. And supports key functionalities like

- pause at emergency stop and safeguard stop
- resume after emergency and safeguard stops
- automatic speed scaling to be within the safety settings
- manually speed scaling from the teach pendant.

The release is now available via rosdep binary for Galactic Geochelone and will also be available for Rolling Ridley and Humble Hawksbill.

See installation instructions [here](https://github.com/UniversalRobots/Universal_Robots_ROS2_Driver) as well as our ROS World 2021 [presentation](https://vimeo.com/649651707) and [slides](https://github.com/UniversalRobots/Universal_Robots_ROS2_Driver/blob/main/ur_robot_driver/doc/resources/2021-10_ROS_World_2021_Making_a_robot_ROS2_powered.pdf). Please leave questions and feedback as a [GitHub issue](https://github.com/UniversalRobots/Universal_Robots_ROS2_Driver/issues).

Other feedback and comments are welcome in this forum or at [ROS@universal-robots.com](mailto:ROS@universal-robots.com)

Happy development!

As our driver’s repository is relying on MoveIt!, which has just recently been released for humble and rolling, we aim for the next sync for humble and the sync in one month for rolling (as the next rolling sync freeze will actually be tomorrow).

The driver is already released for humble, it should be available with the next sync. See [All packages for Humble targets - 2023-01-11 09:01:03 +0000](http://repo.ros2.org/status_page/humble_default.html?q=ros-humble-ur-) for details.

Ah nice!

I’m not able to fully understand the “details” link, so what date will the sync probably happen?

Thanks again, appreciate your time here.
